Rear Sway Bar – Improve Handling

There are few things that can give us the joy of setting out on the open road in a vehicle we love. However, one of the things that few people love is costly car repairs. The more sophisticated and complicated car designs become, the relative cost of repairing them will raise as well. In order to make sure that your car doesn't send you to the poorhouse every time something goes wrong with it, you have to know the little tricks of the trade that will allow you to make improvements that don't cost as much as replacing major components. Understanding the purpose of the rear sway bar is one of those tricks.

Many cars today feature all wheel or four wheel drive capabilities, and many people are instantly attracted to these terms because they think it makes your car more powerful or more stable. While there are certain driving situations that would make this true, like riding down an off road trail or climbing your friends hilltop driveway in the dead of winter, usually most people can get by just fine with normal front wheel drive. If you are interested in improving the way your front wheel drive car handles, without having to invest a ton of money into it, replacing or upgrading your rear sway bar is one tactic you can use.

If you've never heard of the rear sway bar before, but you like the sound of being able to upgrade your car's handling for a low price, then you have a little bit of information to catch up on. This part, which is also referred to as the anti-roll bar, is not what you see sticking up out of jeeps with no top on. The anti-roll bar is actually found underneath the car, and it is single handedly responsible for the fact that your car remains firmly planted with all four wheels on the ground when you take a sharp turn.

When making improvements to the suspension system of your car, you have to be very careful that you don't make something too tight or too lose. If you fit your car with a new rear sway bar and you adjust it to be too tight, it will actually work in the opposite of its intended way, and it will life your wheels off of the ground in a tight turn. This might look cool, but will be terrifying for your passengers.
